Visit to the Kingdom of Fife.

Just opposite from Edinburgh, on the other side of the firth of forth lies the Kingdom of Fife. We will visit the pitoresque village of Crail, known for it's pottery and beautiful little beach.

We walk through the village and learn about it's history. We then make our way to  Pittenweem where we visit our first tidal pool. Tidal pools are....

swimming is optional but highly recommended

Only 2km walking distance we find our second tidal pool of the day: St Monans. Get warm while walking back to the car and make our way to Elie, where we spend some time, walking the beautiful beach or having dinner.

On a good day bass rock, see gannets diving/

I visited the two tidal pools, one in Pittenweem and the other one in St. Monan eralier this year (2021) with a friend. She was a bit weary to 'just go into the sea', the sea being 'very big and quite unpredictable'. Standing at the shore at high tide, the walls underwater and hard to see she made me promise we would not go in too deep. Once in the water, a comfortable cold embracing us, chatting away we started swimming. Yes, there is no mystery end to this story: when we touched the wall at the far end, she turned around to me lauphing: 'It feels like we are swimming in the open sea but without me being worried!'

In the water, next to the water or maybe even on the water never really mattered to me, as long as water was involved. And if there are waves, even better! I have always liked being close to water, salty or not. Even a light drizzle or a surprise strong shower brightens up my hiking day. Considering all that, relocating to Scotland in 2019 was a smart move! From a young age I loved the wind and the waves and the mountains and the lakes. I've been a trekking guide since 2012 in northern regions such as Norway, Canada and Ireland. Of course, after a long hike, there is nothing better than a cool dip or swim! Maybe I was enjoying that part of my job a bit too much (if there is such a thing) and so I decided to shift the focus to open water swimming. I'm now a qualified STA Level 2 Open Water Swim Coach and SLSBG Surf Lifeguard and offer swim session all year around at Wardie Bay, Edinburgh.

2022 has been a big year with swimming to France through the English Channel in a relay.
