Coaching

Tine is an extremely capable and friendly swim coach. I have felt very safe in all conditions with her; rain and waves, sunshine and calm. I even signed up for and took part in my first swim event this year because of her. I have been introduced to a friendly pod of like-minded swimmers because of Tine. I can't recommend her coaching enough. With her trusty kayak, Green Gertie, she will have you reaching your swimming goals in no time!

I started swimming with Tine about a year ago, and taking lessons from June. She is absolutely fantastic - she has encouraged and supported longer swims, set me up with a fantastic pod of swimmers of similar ability and outlook, with whom I have done my first swim event. A year ago I couldn’t swim with my face in the water - at all. My swimming technique has gone from strength to strength. On long swims, it is such a reassurance to have Tine in her kayak, ready to assist, guide, and putting her in a position where she can really see your swim strokes and identify areas for improvement. Oh, and I am also still swimming in just a costume - thanks Tine for encouraging the shivers! If you want an introduction to cold water swimming, to improve technique, or distance, or to grow your own swim pod, I can totally recommend Tine Barkmann Open Water Swim coach.

Tine introduced a small group of us to the wonder of cold water swimming in Wardie Bay. I felt a wee bit scared of the cold water but Tine talked us through how to keep safe in the water, and how to work with it have the maximum fun. Tine is knowledgeable, experienced and funny. She kindly looked after us during the first session, after which I felt very confident about how to keep safe in the cold. In fact I was back again the next day for a lovely swim with some of the Edinburgh Bluetits - totally hooked and can't wait until my next dook. I would thoroughly recommend a session with Tine for any coldwater newbie!

I recently did the Introduction to Cold Water Swimming class with Tine. It was a really great class for someone new to cold water swimming like me who’s not familiar with swimming spots in Edinburgh. I felt much more confident having Tine to guide me through my first swim and am now eagerly looking forward to my next swim. I would definitely recommend her.

I've been wanting to try sea swimming for a while but was nervous about starting. I signed up for Tine's Introduction to Cold Water session and it was fantastic. There was lots of guidance, and with Tine keeping an eye on us we had the confidence to not only swim but even attempt a handstand! I loved it so much I was back in the water again the next day and plan to join Tine's regular coaching sessions. Would highly recommend.

Swim Camps

What a brilliant swim camp. Location on the shores of Loch Tay could not be better for a combination of both challenging swims and loch side gentle swims. The swim across the loch was brilliantly escorted by Tine in a kayak and a friend of Jo’s in a rib). This was helpful for sighting and keeping swimmers safe.

Jo’s set up could not be more perfect with a series of tents that meant that even when the skies opened we and our things were kept dry. Jo and her family provided hot water and hot meals throughout the camp. Delicious soup, BBQ & porridge were just what we wanted.

It was such a fabulous weekend! The location is spectacular and camping on the shores of the loch, being woken by a chorus of birds was just magical. Great fun, in good company & brilliant opportunities for swimming; improving technique, pushing your edge safely, playing in and on the water - whatever you felt like, Tine had it covered. Jo and her team looked after us so well that despite three long sessions of cold water swimming, the weekend was thoroughly relaxing. The food was delicious and plentiful and Jo had thought of everything with options for people (like me) with special dietary requirements. Tine had different coaching sessions with skills and drills for everyone, whatever they wanted to work on. She she kept a close eye on us all; providing tips and feedback. The dry land training was very useful as well (I've bought my bands already ).

It was great to have a chance at a double crossing of the loch on Sunday morning and I'm delighted that I almost made it both ways. Cold got the better of me and when I realised I was done, Tine paddled straight over in her kayak at my signal and then summoned the support boat. The boat pilot, Andy, was very friendly and gave crystal clear instructions how to get onto the boat from the water, so I was back, dressed & warming up by the lovely bonfire in no time. Of course, now I have unfinished business with the loch and will definitely be back for the next swim camp in June to complete the full swim.

Hi Tine

Just a note to thank you for hosting a super weekend at Loch Tay.

I found it both really instructive and confidence building ahead of my triathlon next month. It was also great to meet lots of new friendly faces who enjoy the great outdoors.

We were very well fed and looked after, and it was a great to be back at Kindrochit. I will be recommending it to others and may well be back myself at some point.

I'll hopefully see you and the others at Wardie Bay at some point soon, but if I don't see you beforehand, good luck with the Channel swim.

Best Wishes

Duncan
